Thanks Roger. In my upcoming book I discuss the sensory experience of wine tasting (which of course applies to food as well), but then how it works with our cognitive experience (knowledge) and the effective experience which is everything you mention in your comment. When all three come together in a splendid combination, it can be a most unforgettable experience overall.

I may have been fooled when I drank that Riesling while dining on the Rhine River or that Super Tuscan while overlooking the Tuscan countryside or the Tokaji while relaxing at an outdoor festival in Hungary and I may have bought several bottles to take home with me only to find that wine doesn’t always travel well and by that I mean the environment where it is consumed is as much an influence.
