They have a unique style. They are a lot like the wines of Friuli in Italy. The winemakers create their own unique style and are not controlled by something like DOC.

I don’t think this would have been something I would have been able to pick out of a blind tasting.

Thanks Roger for the information and insight. With the rain you describe, it is probably the case that this vneyard had its own microclimate or this was the best of a smaller and reserved yield.

Most vineyards were hit hard, especially in Italy, Southeast France and Switzerland. In Spain, the North Central region was the unusual as it produced some excellent wines (near Rioja).

Priorat is a unique winemaking region known for cult wines. I’ve been to this region, Grenache and Carignina are the two main grapes with most wines are blended with cab, syrah and merlot as well to crate a “meritage”. I do not believe the have a state control over the blends.

Located in the Southwest, it should have been affected by the rains. I do not know this specific wine but I’m surprised at the concentration you describe. I’m not surprised at the dryness you describe as it is typical of these wines. I guess it just goes to show that regardless of general weather conditions, certain vineyards and winemakers can still produce very good wines.
